A Novice Japanese Teacher’s Identity Construction in Online Teaching Under COVID-19: Beliefs and Perceptions

The present study is mainly focused on a novice Japanese language teacher’s identity through online teaching under the pandemic of COVID-19. Due to high risks public health in U.S. society, all her classes have been migrated from in-person live-online since March 2020. In an attempt fill research gap terms types data and target languages, this qualitative presents experiences female native speaker as teacher at university located Viewing entity rather than separated notions, author conducts both interviews class observations explore participant’s beliefs perceptions teaching, well construction transition unusual period time. collected reveal three themes that are 1) authenticity communication 2) pros cons live-online, 3) various strategies she applies successfully construct professional identities transit between personal professional. Additionally, discussion about how adjusts herself during special time concludes article.
